Novena to the Holy Deacons, Day 8: Saint Raymond of Toulouse

O glorious Saint Raymond, husband, father, deacon, filled with compassion for those who invoke you, I kneel at your feet and humbly beg you to take my present need under your special protection. Vouchsafe to recommend it to our Lord Jesus. Cease not to intercede for me until my request is granted. Above all, obtain for me the grace to one day meet God face to face, and with you and Mary and all the angels and saints praise Him through all eternity.

O most powerful Saint Raymond, deacon, do not let me lose my soul, but obtain for me the grace of entering heaven, forever and ever.

Saint Raymond of Toulouse

A chanter and canon renowned for generosity. A native of Toulouse, France, he was known originally as Raymond Gayrard. After the death of his wife, he became a canon and deacon of Saint Sernin church, Toulouse, helping to rebuild the church.

Renowned for austere lifestyle and generosity to the poor.

Died July 3 1118 of natural causes. Many miracles were reported at his tomb, and the church became a popular pilgrimage site.
