Since I don&#8217;t know much about many of these saints, I&#8217;ve been frequently supplementing with the Matins readings of the day. These readings often give short hagiographies of the saint.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Today is the feast of Saint Romuald. I knew nothing about him. As a young man, he withdrew to the neighboring monastery of Classis to lead a life of penance. There, fired with great eagerness for the love of God and encouraged by an apparition of Saint Apollinaris, he became a monk. <\/p><p>He exercised himself unwearyingly in fasting and prayer, and such joy showed on his face that it gladdened all those who saw him. Burning with desire for martyrdom, he set out for Pannonia, but was taken ill and forced to return. <\/p><p>He became the founder of the <a rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" aria-label=\"Order of Camaldolese monks (opens in a new tab)\" href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Camaldolese\" target=\"_blank\">Order of Camaldolese monks<\/a>, whom he had seen in a vision as Angels mounting a ladder that reached up to heaven. <\/p><p>When he had reached the age of a hundred and twenty, having served God in the greatest austerity for a hundred of those years, he at length made his way to Him in the Year of salvation 1027, and was buried with honor in the church of his Order at Fabriano.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Saint Romuald, pray for us!<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>My monastic Breviary contains memorials and feasts for many saints who fell off the General Calendar in 1969 (or who had their feasts demoted and\/or moved).
