This afternoon, I attended the Sacred Liturgy and participated in the Mass for the Fourth Sunday of Lent (<a rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Laetare_Sunday\" target=\"_blank\">L\u00e6tare Sunday<\/a>), and it was absolutely by the book. &#8230;<\/p><p>This priest,\u00a0<a rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" href=\"http:\/\/www.acts24.com\/blog\/\" target=\"_blank\">Rev. Jacob Maurer<\/a>, was reverent, and he appeared to have large chunks of the\u00a0<a rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Canon_of_the_Mass\" target=\"_blank\">Roman Canon<\/a>\u00a0memorized. &#8230;<\/p><p>Simply, it was letter-perfect. Every word, every gesture no matter how small, was done faithfully and precisely. Yet, the priest never appeared to be performing or reciting; he was simply praying, and we were caught up in his prayer, bourne aloft with his words to the presence of the Father.<\/p><p>It was an absolute revelation.<\/p><p>This priest was not putting on a show, he was humbling himself and making the prayer of the Church\u00a0<em>his<\/em>\u00a0prayer, and presented with this reality, the people responded not to him, but to Christ who was acting through him.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The years have come and gone, and this priest, now my friend, is pastor of <a rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" aria-label=\"another church (opens in a new tab)\" href=\"https:\/\/saintmarkshoreline.org\/\" target=\"_blank\">another church<\/a> far away.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">One thing, however, has <em>not<\/em> changed. Today, Francine and I participated in this Sunday&#8217;s Mass in this <a href=\"http:\/\/www.thomryng.com\/amateurmonk\/prayer-in-a-time-of-plague\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" aria-label=\"time of plague (opens in a new tab)\">time of plague<\/a> through the magic of the Internet, with Father Maurer celebrating.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">He is still praying the venerable Roman Canon. He is still reverent, faithful, and precise. And he is still one of the most holy men I know.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Thank you, Father Maurer. Thank you for your priesthood. Thank you for your faithfulness. Thank you for bringing Christ to us.
