W<\/span>e come to the last of the O Antiphons, for tomorrow is Christmas Eve, the great Vigil of the Nativity.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

I mentioned yesterday that the O Antiphons were arranged backward into the song Veni, Veni Emmanuel<\/em>. This was by design, for the Antiphons themselves are a backward acrostic.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The first letters of the Messianic titles \u2014 E<\/strong>mmanuel, R<\/strong>ex, O<\/strong>riens, C<\/strong>lavis, R<\/strong>adix, A<\/strong>donai, S<\/strong>api\u00e9ntia<\/em> \u2014 spell out the Latin words ero cras<\/strong>, meaning, “Tomorrow, I will come”<\/em>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Which is pretty neat.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
