The pilgrim’s badge to Santiago de Compostela<\/em><\/figcaption><\/figure><\/div>\n\n\n\n

T<\/span>omorrow we leave for Spain. This will be our fourth pilgrimage on the Camino de Santiago. This time, we’re walking the route known as the Camino Primitivo<\/a><\/em>. We shall return Memorial Day Weekend.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Camino Primitivo is the original Camino route (more or less), and it was established by King Alfonso II of Asturias<\/a> in the year 814. It begins in Oviedo<\/a>, the capital city of the former Kingdom (now Principality) of Asturias<\/a>. It goes through two of Spain’s regions, Asturias and Galicia<\/a>. Along the way, it crosses the Cantabrian Mountains<\/a>. Although it can be walked in 13 days, our plan is to take 14, plus a couple of zero days. We also have several “slop” days to account for injuries, fatigue, or additional sightseeing.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
