This was a thousand years after the conversion of the Empire to Christ, almost fifteen centuries after the fall of the Republic, and 2,206 years after the foundation of Rome.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">This event, long in coming and long foretold, should be remembered with sorrow and longing. To this end, I include below the <em>Lamentatio sanctae matris ecclesiae Constantinopolitan\u00e6<\/em>\u00a0, which is the &#8220;Lament of the Holy Mother Church of Constantinople&#8221;. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">It is taken and adapted from the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.biblegateway.com\/passage\/?search=Lamentations%201&amp;version=RSVCE\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Book of Lamentations<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure><iframe loading=\"lazy\" width=\"560\" height=\"315\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/CvYGeiKw_zo\" allowfullscreen=\"\"><\/iframe><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Nothing, not even eternal Rome, lasts forever. Every empire is ephemeral, and we would do well to remember this in our current age.
