I hope you&#8217;re enjoying your twelve drummers drumming. Depending on what calendar you happen to be using, today might very well be the Epiphany for you. If so, happy Epiphany!<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Traditionally, though, the Epiphany is celebrated on January 6. Since the calendar reforms of 1970, any diocese may choose to move the celebration to the Sunday following January 1<span id='easy-footnote-1-109350' class='easy-footnote-margin-adjust'><\/span><span class='easy-footnote'><a href='https:\/\/www.thomryng.com\/amateurmonk\/epiphany-confusion-2025\/#easy-footnote-bottom-1-109350' title='Technically &amp;#8220;The Epiphany of the Lord is celebrated on 6 January, unless, where it is not observed as a\u00a0holy day of obligation, it has been assigned to the Sunday occurring between 2 and 8 January.&amp;#8221; (&lt;em&gt;Universal Norms on the Liturgical Year and the Calendar&lt;\/em&gt;, no. 37)'><sup>1<\/sup><\/a><\/span>. Indeed, this is what my own archdiocese of Seattle does. This morning at <a href=\"https:\/\/www.saintpats.org\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">my parish<\/a>, we celebrated the Mass of the Epiphany; so, happy Epiphany!<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">In many other places in the United States and around the world, today is simply the <em>Second Sunday after Christmas<\/em>. After various reforms, this vanished as an official (sub)season, but certainly, this last week of Christmas has a different character than the previous twelve-ish days. I see no reason that one couldn&amp;#8217;t refer to the time between the Epiphany and the Baptism of the Lord as Epiphanytide. At least unofficially.'><sup>3<\/sup><\/a><\/span>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">These days, of course, the calendar has been moved around a bit and the Christmas Season doesn&#8217;t end until the feast of the Baptism of the Lord, which is a week from now.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Mind you, there&#8217;s no reason not to have the pastries anyway.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">One of the great Epiphany traditions is the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.catholicworldreport.com\/2025\/01\/05\/how-to-bless-your-home-on-the-feast-of-epiphany-2025\/\" data-type=\"link\" data-id=\"https:\/\/www.catholicworldreport.com\/2025\/01\/05\/how-to-bless-your-home-on-the-feast-of-epiphany-2025\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Epiphany house blessing<\/a>.
