The new Mass translation is coming in Advent! Back in 2000, Blessed Pope John Paul II issued the third edition of the Roman Missal. After more than ten years of consultation and work, the new English translation is finally ready.<\/p>\n

Much of the new translation for the second half of the Gloria<\/em> is a matter of rearranging clauses into a sequence that better reflects the original order of the Latin:<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\nqui tollis pecc\u00e1ta mundi,
\ns\u00fascipe deprecati\u00f3nem nostram;
\nqui sedes ad d\u00e9xteram
\nPatris,
\nmiser\u00e9re nobis.<\/p>\n

Quoniam tu solus Sanctus,
\ntu solus D\u00f3minus,
\ntu solus Altiss\u00edmus, Jesu Christe,

Lord Jesus Christ, Only Begotten Son,

you take away the sins of the world,
\nhave mercy on us;
\nyou take away the sins of the world,
\nreceive our prayer,
\nyou are seated at the right hand
\nof the Father,
\nhave mercy on us.<\/p>\n

For you alone are the Holy One,
\nyou alone are the Lord,
\nyou alone are the Most High, Jesus Christ,
\nwith the Holy Spirit,
\nin the glory of God the Father.
\nAmen.<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n<\/table>\n

Jesus is twice mentioned as God\u2019s Son. This not only better reflects the Latin, but reminds us that Jesus is begotten, not made, something we\u2019ll come back to when we discuss the Creed. We also see that the phrase \u201cyou take away the sins of the world\u201d is repeated twice. This should remind us of the Agnus Dei<\/em>: \u201cLamb of God, you who take away the sins of the world….\u201d<\/p>\n

The new translation makes clear that one of the great reasons to proclaim the glory of Christ is that He is indeed our Savior who took away the sins of the world with His redemptive passion. The words themselves are taken from the Gospel of John: \u201cThe next day he saw Jesus coming toward him and said, ‘Behold, the Lamb of God, who takes away the sin of the world.’\u201d (John 1:29) <\/p>\n
