{"id":18011,"date":"2012-10-11T00:01:17","date_gmt":"2012-10-11T07:01:17","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.thomryng.com\/amateurmonk\/?p=18011"},"modified":"2024-12-31T14:27:10","modified_gmt":"2024-12-31T22:27:10","slug":"the-year-of-faith-begins","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.thomryng.com\/amateurmonk\/the-year-of-faith-begins\/","title":{"rendered":"The Year of Faith Begins"},"content":{"rendered":"<p class=\"drop\">Pope Benedict XVI has <a href=\"http:\/\/www.vatican.va\/holy_father\/benedict_xvi\/motu_proprio\/documents\/hf_ben-xvi_motu-proprio_20111011_porta-fidei_en.html\" target=\"_new\">proclaimed a &#8220;Year of Faith&#8221;<\/a> to run from today, 11 October 2012, through to 24 November 2013. <\/p>\n<p><iframe loading=\"lazy\" width=\"420\" height=\"315\" src=\"http:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/WhMlb1kaluo?rel=0\" frameborder=\"0\" allowfullscreen><\/iframe><\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.annusfidei.va\/content\/novaevangelizatio\/en\/annus-fidei\/indicazioni-pastorali-per-l-anno-della-fede.html\" target=\"_new\">Pastoral guidelines<\/a> have been published that call for <a href=\"http:\/\/www.adoremus.org\/0212YearofFaith.html\">prayer, celebrations, pilgrimages, catechetical events, missions, and new forms of evangelization<\/a>. <\/p>\n<p><span class=\"wpsdc-drop-cap\">T<\/span>he Pope calls us to <em>profess<\/em> the faith, <em>celebrate<\/em> the faith, and <em>witness to<\/em> the faith.<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>Faith grows when it is lived as an experience of love received and when it is communicated as an experience of grace and joy.<\/p>\n<p>(Pope Benedict XVI, <em>Porta Fidei<\/em>)<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>I am particularly struck by the recommendation that <\/p>\n<blockquote><p>&#8230;there will be a renewed creative dialogue between faith and reason in the academic and artistic communities, through symposia, meetings and days of study, especially at Catholic universities, in order to demonstrate that \u201cthere cannot be any conflict between faith and genuine science, because both, albeit via different routes, tend towards the truth\u201d<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>The Vatican has established a <a href=\"http:\/\/www.annusfidei.va\/content\/novaevangelizatio\/en.html\" target=\"_blank\">comprehensive web site<\/a> to help coordinate the many activities and events of the year. The <a href=\"http:\/\/www.annusfidei.va\/content\/novaevangelizatio\/en\/faq1.html\" target=\"_blank\">FAQ <\/a>is particularly helpful in getting started.<\/p>\n<p>In addition, a <a href=\"http:\/\/www.annusfidei.va\/content\/novaevangelizatio\/en\/news\/indulgentia.html\" target=\"_blank\">Plenary Indulgence<\/a> has been granted for the occasion of the Year of Faith.<\/p>\n<p>A special <a href=\"http:\/\/www.catholicnews.com\/data\/stories\/cns\/1202632.htm\" target=\"_blank\">hymn<\/a> has even been composed (<a href=\"http:\/\/www.annusfidei.va\/content\/novaevangelizatio\/en\/annus-fidei\/inno-musicale.html\" target=\"_blank\">English text<\/a>).<\/p>\n<p>Other folks have set up assorted resources as well. Every day, they will e-mail you a couple of sections from the Catechism.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.catholicyearoffaith.com\/index.html\" target=\"_blank\">CatholicYearOfFaith.com<\/a> &#8211; holy cards and other materials.<\/p>\n<p>Various dioceses around the world have set up their one information pages. My home <a href=\"http:\/\/www.seattlearchdiocese.org\/YOF\/default.aspx\" target=\"_blank\">Archdiocese of Seattle<\/a> is no different.<\/p>\n<p>Fr.
