{"id":3083,"date":"2012-05-04T03:00:04","date_gmt":"2012-05-04T11:00:04","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.thomryng.com\/amateurmonk\/?p=3083"},"modified":"2012-12-14T13:42:35","modified_gmt":"2012-12-14T21:42:35","slug":"anticipating-an-arrival-2","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.thomryng.com\/amateurmonk\/anticipating-an-arrival-2\/","title":{"rendered":"Anticipating an Arrival"},"content":{"rendered":"<p class=\"drop\">God willing, and assuming I have calculated correctly, exactly one year from today I will be arriving in Santiago de Compostella in Spain at the end of a long pilgrimage.<\/p>\n<p>The two obvious questions are: What? and Why?<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/www.thomryng.com\/amateurmonk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/05\/Trek-Camino-de-Santiago.aspx_.jpg\"><img data-recalc-dims=\"1\" decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" src=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/www.thomryng.com\/amateurmonk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/05\/Trek-Camino-de-Santiago.aspx_-244x300.jpg?resize=244%2C300\" alt=\"\" title=\"Trek-Camino-de-Santiago.aspx\" width=\"244\" height=\"300\" class=\"alignleft size-medium wp-image-2978\" \/><\/a>The &#8220;what&#8221; part is easy. I will follow the medieval pilgrimage trail known as the <a href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Camino_de_Santiago\" target=\"_blank\">Camino de Santiago<\/a>, starting from the mountain village of <a href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Saint-Jean-Pied-de-Port\" target=\"_blank\">Saint-Jean-Pied-de-Port<\/a> in the French Pyrenees. <\/p>\n<p>A month later I will arrive in the city of Santiago de Compostella, at the Cathedral where the remains of the Apostle <a href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/James,_son_of_Zebedee\" target=\"_blank\">Saint James<\/a> are said to be interred.<\/p>\n<p>The Way begins in a village named for the Apostle John, son of Zebedee, and it ends at a city named for his older brother. <\/p>\n<p>Perhaps it is a metaphorical voyage from John&#8217;s poetry to James&#8217; practicality. Who knows?<\/p>\n<p>In any case, my plan is to walk the entire <a href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/French_Way\" target=\"_blank\">769km<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Why?<\/p>\n<p>Ah, now <em>that <\/em>is the question. The Lord calls me, and I must follow the Way.
