{"id":53917,"date":"2013-03-23T16:25:36","date_gmt":"2013-03-23T23:25:36","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.thomryng.com\/amateurmonk\/an-intentional-camino-day\/"},"modified":"2013-04-09T13:43:25","modified_gmt":"2013-04-09T20:43:25","slug":"an-intentional-camino-day","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.thomryng.com\/amateurmonk\/an-intentional-camino-day\/","title":{"rendered":"An Intentional Camino Day"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.thomryng.com\/camino\/2013\/03\/23\/an-intentional-camino-day\/shoes\/\" rel=\"attachment wp-att-1051\"><img data-recalc-dims=\"1\" decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" src=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/www.thomryng.com\/camino\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/03\/shoes-e1364080362347-224x300.jpg?resize=224%2C300\" alt=\"shoes\" width=\"224\" height=\"300\" class=\"alignleft size-medium wp-image-1051\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p class=\"drop\">Back in August, a buddy and I had what I called <a href=\"http:\/\/www.thomryng.com\/camino\/2012\/08\/24\/an-inadvertent-camino-day\/\" target=\"_blank\">&#8220;an inadvertent Camino day&#8221;<\/a>, where we sort of accidentally walked 25km.<\/p>\n<p>While there&#8217;s no such thing as a &#8220;typical&#8221; day on the Camino, 25km is a pretty fair shot at it.<\/p>\n<p>Well, today I intentionally walked 25km with full pack. Francine (who is a couple of weeks behind me in our <a href=\"http:\/\/www.thomryng.com\/camino\/2013\/02\/20\/training-regimen\/\" target=\"_blank\">training regimen<\/a>) walked 20km.<\/p>\n<p>We started from Pistachio House at just after 8:30AM, and we returned at just after 3:30PM. <\/p>\n<p>Along the way, we stopped for lunch at a little caf\u00e9 we&#8217;d never been to before. I had my by now traditional training lunch of a burger and an IPA.<\/p>\n<p>In terms of both speed and distance, I hit the marks.<\/p>\n<p>So how did it go? It was surprisingly easy. There were a couple of times where the pace flagged, and at one point my calves started bothering me. It turns out you really can &#8220;walk it off&#8221;. Who knew?<\/p>\n<p>So now that we&#8217;re home, I can report that my feet are swollen, but there&#8217;s nothing close to a blister. I&#8217;m tired and sore, of course, but I could easily do this again tomorrow had I the time.<\/p>\n<p>When I took off my shoes (pictured above), they were warm enough to briefly steam in the cold air.<\/p>\n<p>A flagon of cider has largely restored my energy, and I think a shower and a pipe are in order.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Back in August, a buddy and I had what I called &#8220;an inadvertent Camino day&#8221;, where we sort of accidentally walked 25km.
