On paper, this should have been our easiest day. Unfortunately, a heatwave hit.<\/p>\n

We arrived in Ponferrada in good shape and good time, but there we found the old Templar castle. We waited until it opened at 11, and we spent over an hour exploring both the castle and its collection of medieval manuscripts.<\/p>\n

Not to mention the basilica…<\/p>\n

So now we were hopelessly behind schedule and walking in the full heat of the day – 27C.<\/p>\n

It was kind of horrible. We took frequent breaks and didn’t arrive in Cacabelos until nearly 7pm, crabby and exhausted.<\/p>\n
