It is, of course, this verse that comes to mind:<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>\nWe praise You, Lord, for Sister Earth,<br \/>\nwho sustains us<br \/>\nwith her fruits, colored flowers, and herbs.\n<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>Although it&#8217;s now known as <em>Canticle of the Sun<\/em>, the author&#8217;s original title was <em>Laudes Creaturarum<\/em>, which means <em>Song of the Creatures<\/em>. <\/p>\n<p>&#8220;Creatures&#8221; is, I think, meant in the original meaning of &#8220;something that has been created&#8221; rather than the current meaning of &#8220;critters&#8221;.<\/p>\n<p>Here it is in full:<\/p>\n<hr>\n<p class=\"drop\">Most High, all-powerful, all-good Lord,<br \/>\nAll praise is Yours, all glory, honor and blessings.<br \/>\nTo you alone, Most High, do they belong;<br \/>\nno mortal lips are worthy to pronounce Your Name.<\/p>\n<p>We praise You, Lord, for all Your creatures,<br \/>\nespecially for Brother Sun,<br \/>\nwho is the day through whom You give us light.<br \/>\nAnd he is beautiful and radiant with great splendor,<br \/>\nof You Most High, he bears your likeness.<\/p>\n<p>We praise You, Lord, for Sister Moon and the stars,<br \/>\nin the heavens you have made them bright, precious and fair.<\/p>\n<p>We praise You, Lord, for Brothers Wind and Air,<br \/>\nfair and stormy, all weather&#8217;s moods,<br \/>\nby which You cherish all that You have made.<\/p>\n<p>We praise You, Lord, for Sister Water,<br \/>\nso useful, humble, precious and pure.<\/p>\n<p>We praise You, Lord, for Brother Fire,<br \/>\nthrough whom You light the night.<br \/>\nHe is beautiful, playful, robust, and strong.<\/p>\n<p>We praise You, Lord, for Sister Earth,<br \/>\nwho sustains us<br \/>\nwith her fruits, colored flowers, and herbs.<\/p>\n<p>We praise You, Lord, for those who pardon,<br \/>\nfor love of You bear sickness and trial.<br \/>\nBlessed are those who endure in peace,<br \/>\nby You Most High, they will be crowned.<\/p>\n<p>We praise You, Lord, for Sister Death,<br \/>\nfrom whom no-one living can escape.<br \/>\nWoe to those who die in their sins!<br \/>\nBlessed are those that She finds doing Your Will.<br \/>\nNo second death can do them harm.  <\/p>\n<p>We praise and bless You, Lord, and give You thanks,<br \/>\nand serve You in all humility.<br \/>\nIn the Name of Jesus Christ our Lord.
