Our Lady of the Holy Rosary Church, Tacoma<\/p><\/div>
\nM<\/span>y parish of Holy Rosary will celebrate our parish feast day on Sunday October 5 with a special Mass at noon. <\/p>\n

Holy Rosary is located just north of I-5 overlooking downtown Tacoma, at 424 South 30th Street. <\/p>\n

Seriously, you can’t miss it.<\/p>\n

This year we’re celebrating 800 years. No, the parish church might be old, but it’s not quite that <\/em>old. The parish was founded by German immigrants in 1891.<\/p>\n

The Feast of the Holy Rosary is celebrated every year in October, but this year is different. <\/p>\n

In the year 1214, a preacher named Dominic de Guzm\u00e1n was having trouble bringing the Gospel to the people in southern France. Tradition holds that the Blessed Virgin Mary appeared to Dominic in a vision and gave him a string of beads and instructed him how to use it to pray.<\/p>\n

This apparition is known as \u201cOur Lady of the Holy Rosary\u201d because early devotees poetically proclaimed the beads a \u201cgarland of roses\u201d. Saint Dominic and his followers spread this devotional prayer, first to France and eventually all over the Catholic world.<\/p>\n

Holy Rosary church in Tacoma is named for this apparition of Mary. The church’s largest stained glass window depicts the moment when the Virgin Mary handed the rosary to Saint Dominic.<\/p>\n
