The origin of the word is Latin:<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>from Late Latin <em>ill\u0101ti\u014d <\/em>a bringing in, from Latin <em>ill\u0101tus <\/em>brought in, from <em>inferre <\/em>to bring in, from <em>in-<\/em> + <em>ferre <\/em>to bear, carry<\/p>\n<p>(<a href=\"http:\/\/dictionary.reference.com\/browse\/illation\" target=\"_blank\">source<\/a>)\n<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>None of which really clears it up.<\/p>\n<p>Add to this the rather mysterious way that it appears in the Ordo (i.e. &#8220;some monasteries&#8221; with no indication of the rank) but not at all in Breviary, and I am genuinely puzzled.<\/p>\n<p>An Internet search comes up empty &#8211; though I will note that my Google-fu is weak.<\/p>\n<p>Can anyone shed any light on this?<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Tomorrow on my Benedictine calendar is something called &#8220;Illation of the Relics of Saint Benedict&#8221;.
