In my <em><a href=\"http:\/\/www.thomryng.com\/amateurmonk\/review-monastic-diurnal-at-one-year\/\" target=\"_blank\">Monastic Diurnal<\/a><\/em>, Epiphany begins with tonight&#8217;s Vespers.<\/p>\n<p>This was traditionally a time of <a href=\"http:\/\/www.telegraph.co.uk\/food-and-drink\/features\/lets-bring-back-the-glorious-food-traditions-of-twelfth-night\/\" target=\"_blank\">feasting<\/a> and festivity (all of which seem to include various varieties of <a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/King_cake\" target=\"_blank\">enormous <\/a><a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Rosca_de_reyes\" target=\"_blank\">pastries<\/a>) marking the end of Christmastide and the beginning of Epiphanytide<span id='easy-footnote-1-88089' class='easy-footnote-margin-adjust'><\/span><span class='easy-footnote'><a href='https:\/\/www.thomryng.com\/amateurmonk\/twelfth-night-2017\/#easy-footnote-bottom-1-88089' title='Epiphanytide was originally the Octave of Epiphany, running to 13 January. After various reforms, this vanished as an official (sub)season, but certainly this last week of Christmas has a different character than the previous twelve-ish days even still. I see no reason that one couldn&amp;#8217;t refer to the time between the Epiphany and the Baptism of the Lord as Epiphanytide. At least unofficially.'><sup>1<\/sup><\/a><\/span>.<\/p>\n<p>These days, of course, the calendar has been moved around a bit and the Christmas Season doesn&#8217;t end until the feast of the Baptism of the Lord, which is a week from Sunday. <\/p>\n<p>Mind you, there&#8217;s no reason to not have the pastries anyway.<\/p>\n<p>We&#8217;ll be having our annual Epiphany Feast a week late, which is weirdly becoming a tradition around here. <\/p>\n<p>One of the great Epiphany traditions is the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.carmelites.net\/news\/chalking-door-epiphany-house-blessing-2015\/\" target=\"_blank\">Epiphany house blessing<\/a>. We normally do this on our Epiphany Feast &#8211; which before last year had been on Epiphany Sunday. This year, I suspect we will do it this Sunday.
