\nI<\/span>n April of 1974, Pope Saint Paul VI issued a small book called Jubilate Deo<\/em> containing various Latin chants. Copies were sent as “a personal gift” to all the Bishops of the world. In the accompanying letter from the Sacred Congregation for Divine Worship, we read,<\/p>\n

In presenting the Holy Father\u2019s gift to you, may I at the same time remind you of the desire which he has often expressed that the Conciliar constitution on the liturgy be increasingly better implemented. Would you therefore, in collaboration with the competent diocesan and national agencies for the liturgy, sacred music and catechetics, decide on the best ways of teaching the faithful the Latin chants of Jubilate Deo<\/em> and of having them sing them, and also of promoting the preservation and execution of Gregorian chant in the communities mentioned above. You will thus be performing a new service for the Church in the domain of liturgical renewal.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n

The Pope and the Congregation regarded this as the “minimum repertoire of Plain Chant”<\/em> that every Catholic should know.<\/p>\n

While it is easy enough to find faded photocopies, or PDFs of the contents, the book itself has sadly been out of print for some time. <\/p>\n

We hope to remedy that now. I have personally re-typeset the entirety of the book, and reissued it with a new preface.<\/p>\n
