This is the Camino Primitivo &#8211; \u201cThe Original Way\u201d &#8211; the traditional route taken by the first pilgrim to Santiago, <a rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Alfonso_II_of_Asturias\" data-type=\"URL\" data-id=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Alfonso_II_of_Asturias\" target=\"_blank\">King Alphonso II of Asturias<\/a>, in AD 814. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">It begins in the Asturian capital of <a rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Oviedo\" data-type=\"URL\" data-id=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Oviedo\" target=\"_blank\">Oviedo<\/a> and crosses the mountains of the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.thomryng.com\/camino\/camino-photo-of-the-day-looking-north-to-the-cordillera-cantabrica\/\">Cordillera Cant\u00e1brica<\/a>. The walk is about two weeks. We took a zero day in Oviedo to start, and also in the city of Lugo, a little more than halfway.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">It wasn&#8217;t the long Camino I&#8217;ve been dreaming of for so long, but given the time restraints imposed by working for a living, this is the best we can do for now and still make it to Santiago in a Holy Year.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">And what&#8217;s not to love?
