The name itself, of course, comes from <em>r\u00faa vieja<\/em>, &#8220;the old road&#8221;, which will probably give you some idea of the antiquity of the street. Most of the buildings are, if not quite modern, let us at least say &#8220;not medieval&#8221;. Much of this is due to the destruction of the wars that raged through the town in the early modern period, where it was traded back and forth between Navarra and Castile.
