A<\/span>lthough I took many photos of the delightful monastic cloister at Santa Mar\u00eda la Real<\/a> in N\u00e1jera, for some reason all of them were blurry. This is, I think, the best. If you look closely at the statues along both sides, you will see that many are headless. As a bonus (by way of apologizing for the lack of posting the past few days) I’ve enclosed a second photo of the sign which helps explain why that is. What it doesn’t tell you is that after the Disentailment<\/a>, the government turned the monastery into a prison, and the guards amused themselves by shooting the heads off the statues.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
