Humans have been living in the area more or less continuously for something like half a million years, with the earliest examples of\u00a0<em><a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Homo_antecessor\">Homo antecessor<\/a><\/em> dating to 800,000 years ago or more.
