J<\/span>ust after crossing the R\u00edo Carri\u00f3n, Eamon and I walk past the Monasterio de San Zoilo<\/a>. This was once one of the largest and wealthiest Benedictine monasteries in Castilla y Le\u00f3n, and the building itself was the\u00a0“first architectural works of Cluniac Romanesque in the Iberian Peninsula<\/a>“. Sadly, these days it’s a hotel. The relics of Saint Zoilus are entombed here. He died a martyr in 304 AD, having been killed in\u00a0C\u00f3rdoba (Colonia Patricia<\/em>)\u00a0under the Emperor\u00a0Diocletian.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
