T<\/span>his monument just before the city of Sahag\u00fan is said to mark the halfway point on the Camino in Spain, from Roncesvalles to Santiago de Compostela. Today’s photo is a rare montage, cheesy postcard style. On the left we have \u00a0Bernardo de Sedirac<\/a>\u00a0(d. 1128?) who founded the local Cluniac abbey and became Primate of Spain, and on the right is King\u00a0Alfonso VI \u201cthe Brave\u201d<\/a>\u00a0of Le\u00f3n and Castile (1047-1109) who founded the nearby city of Sahag\u00fan.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

There was some work being done to the grounds surrounding the monument when we visited in 2013. By 2016, it looked very different<\/a>, with the grass cleaned up and a new path through the statues in place. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
