Upon the hill to the left stand the ruins of the <a rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" href=\"https:\/\/es.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Castillo_de_Sarrac%C3%ADn\" data-type=\"URL\" data-id=\"https:\/\/es.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Castillo_de_Sarrac%C3%ADn\" target=\"_blank\">Castillo de Sarrac\u00edn<\/a>. Despite the similarity of names, the castle has nothing to do with the Saracens, except perhaps that the Moors destroyed the original Christian castle on this site in the year 714. It was rebuilt by (or possibly for) a Christian Prince named Sarracino Gat\u00f3nez, lord of Sarrac\u00edn, count of Bierzo and Astorga in the ninth century and named for him. It was expanded \u2013 rebuilt, really \u2013 in the 14th century.
