{"id":13552,"date":"2022-12-27T10:34:14","date_gmt":"2022-12-27T18:34:14","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.thomryng.com\/camino\/?p=13552"},"modified":"2022-12-27T10:34:17","modified_gmt":"2022-12-27T18:34:17","slug":"camino-photo-of-the-day-samos-the-first-view","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.thomryng.com\/camino\/camino-photo-of-the-day-samos-the-first-view\/","title":{"rendered":"Camino Photo of the Day: Samos, the First View"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><span class=\"wpsdc-drop-cap\">T<\/span>his was our first view of the <a rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" href=\"https:\/\/es.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Monasterio_de_San_Juli%C3%A1n_de_Samos\" target=\"_blank\">Monasterio de San Juli\u00e1n de Samos<\/a>. This ancient abbey was founded in the 6th century. Thanks to the vagaries of history, including a Moslem invasion and occupation in the 8th century, forced secularization by the Spanish government in the 19th century, and several devastating fires throughout the centuries, it was abandoned and restored several times. Over that time, it has been inhabited by Benedictine monks and been part of the Congregation of Cluny and later the Congregation of the Observance of Valladolid.
