This is the Irexo de San Nicolao, otherwise known in Castilian Spanish as the Iglesia de San Nicol\u00e1s. It was built as a fortress, as this area was at the time subject to raids by organized bandits, as well as the usual <em>Reconquista <\/em>wars. It was originally built by the Knights Hospitaller as a pilgrim church and fortress. But it wasn&#8217;t originally built on this site.
