{"id":17104,"date":"2023-12-27T11:27:36","date_gmt":"2023-12-27T19:27:36","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.thomryng.com\/camino\/?p=17104"},"modified":"2023-12-28T09:34:49","modified_gmt":"2023-12-28T17:34:49","slug":"camino-photo-of-the-day-to-begin","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.thomryng.com\/camino\/camino-photo-of-the-day-to-begin\/","title":{"rendered":"Camino Photo of the Day: To Begin, a Blessing"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><span class=\"wpsdc-drop-cap\">T<\/span>oday being the feast of Saint John, Apostle and Evangelist, my Confirmation Saint and the brother of Saint James &#8211; Santiago &#8211; it seems apropos to begin this new series of the Camino Photo of the Day today.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">My 2023 pilgrimage began in our parish church of Saint Patrick, with the ancient pilgrims&#8217; blessing<span id='easy-footnote-1-17104' class='easy-footnote-margin-adjust'><\/span><span class='easy-footnote'><a href='https:\/\/www.thomryng.com\/camino\/camino-photo-of-the-day-to-begin\/#easy-footnote-bottom-1-17104' title='The oldest surviving copy of the text appears the\u00a0&lt;em&gt;Missal&lt;\/em&gt;\u00a0of Vich Cathedral, Barcelona, Spain, dated to AD 1078.'><sup>1<\/sup><\/a><\/span> bestowed on me by my pastor, Rev. David Mulholland. Father is the only cleric who has managed to give me this blessing more than once: he also blessed Francine and me before our <a href=\"https:\/\/www.thomryng.com\/camino\/blessing-of-the-pilgrims-2022\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">2022 Camino Primitivo<\/a>. This particular blessing was on what Francine and I consider our &#8220;Catholic anniversary&#8221; &#8211; August 15, the Solemnity of the Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary &#8211; the day she and I first walked into a Catholic church together back in 2004.
