W<\/span>e spent several hours exploring the medieval village of Conques. This included a walk around the great abbey church. Like many medieval constructions, there is ample evidence of additions, changes, and restorations. In fact, the church is under restoration right now. You can see some of the scaffolding on the right. It somehow reminded me of a quote by G.K. Chesterton:<\/p>\n\n\n\n

If you leave a thing alone you leave it to a torrent of change. If you leave a white post alone it will soon be a black post. If you particularly want it to be white you must be always painting it again; that is, you must be always having a revolution.
