The last part of the road to Zubiri was one of the more difficult parts of our Camino. Three years ago, it was exhausting. This year, with the rain and the delays caused by the rain, it was downright dangerous. The descent is long and steep and strewn with rocks and boulders. With the rain, it was also muddy and slippery. Most of it is wooded, so as the afternoon wore into early evening, it grew fairly dark.

Not fun.

We walked much of this descent with Penny and with Billy, seen here in blue, a retired fellow we met the previous day. His goal is to walk 10,000 miles before he dies.
