T<\/span>here’s a section of the Camino approaching Viana that runs right next to the N-111 highway. As we were walking this portion, a car drove by and honked. We waved back. This is not that unusual in Navarra, where the people like to greet and encourage pilgrims. What happened next, though, was a little unusual. The car crossed the median, turned around, drove a couple of dozen meters, then turned around again. It pulled off the road just ahead of us. And who was in it but Friar David<\/a>!<\/p>\n

He had been hoping to run into us. Apparently, right after we parted the day before, he realized that his advice to me was not very helpful. So we talked a bit more, and he gave me a pin, which I added to my hat, placing the Franciscan cross next to my Benedictine medal.<\/p>\n
