I<\/span>‘ve often said that Spain, or at least the northern part we visited, isn’t a country so much as several different countries jammed up together. Each has its own geography and climate, its own food, its own culture, and even its own language. Here are a couple of funky things that let you know that you’re probably in Castilla rather than Navarra or Galicia. Take a look at the building on the left. Notice the “false steeple”. Notice the way the branches of the trees out front are grafted together to make a shade umbrella in the summer. Finally, the roofing material is almost uniformly ceramic. None of these is exclusively indicative – I’m willing to bet that even in these photos you will find examples of each of these in the other countries of our Camino – but all three together? Castilla.<\/p>\n
