It crosses the R\u00edo Arlanz\u00f3n and culminates in the Arco de Santa Mar\u00eda, one of the twelve Medieval gates into the old city. The bridge was extensively renovated in the 19th century, and again in the early 21st century. The river below is the first river on the Camino which flows into the Atlantic rather than the Mediterranean &#8211; truly a &#8220;watershed moment&#8221;.
