I suspect that it&#8217;s a vision of purgatory, probably with some local persons depicted. The idea of these images is often to provide a stark reminder to pray for our beloved dead. What a far cry this is from modern days, where people are often lauded as saints during their funeral Mass. When I die, I want the priest to preach on the <a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Four_last_things\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" target=\"_blank\">Four Last Things<\/a> and to entreat those present to pray for me. I suspect I&#8217;m going to need all the prayers I can get.
