In centuries past, this is the place where pilgrims would first see the spires of the cathedral. There are records of pilgrims falling to their knees and singing the <em><a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Te_Deum\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" target=\"_blank\">Te Deum<\/a><\/em>. Nowadays due to urban sprawl, to see the spires you actually have to leave the Camino and walk twenty or thirty meters over the hill to get the view. This we have done each time, often singing the English <em><a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Holy_God,_We_Praise_Thy_Name\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" target=\"_blank\">Holy God, We Praise Thy Name<\/a><\/em>. This bizarre monument was built at the crest of the hill when <a href=\"http:\/\/www.xelmirez.com\/comeniusweb\/pdf\/JUAN_PABLO_II.pdf\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" target=\"_blank\">Pope John Paul II came to Santiago as a pilgrim in 1982<\/a>.
