Here, we enter through the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.thomryng.com\/amateurmonk\/open-wide-the-holy-doors-and-announce-the-jubilee\/\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" target=\"_blank\">Holy Door<\/a>. This particular door is open only in Jacobean Holy Years &#8211; those years where the Feast of Santiago falls on a Sunday. In 2016, however, Pope Francis had declared a special <a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Extraordinary_Jubilee_of_Mercy\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" target=\"_blank\">Jubilee Holy Year of Mercy<\/a>. Holy Doors were opened in Cathedrals and Basilicas and specially designated churches all over the world. In fact, my home parish of Holy Rosary had Holy Doors.<\/p>\n<p>These were not the first we&#8217;d seen on the Camino, either. We&#8217;d walked through Holy Doors at <a href=\"https:\/\/www.thomryng.com\/camino\/camino-photo-of-the-day-holy-doors\/\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" target=\"_blank\">Pamplona\u2019s Catedral de Santa Mar\u00eda la Real<\/a> (on April 2), <a href=\"https:\/\/www.thomryng.com\/camino\/camino-photo-of-the-day-holy-doors-of-navarrete\/\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" target=\"_blank\">Navarrete\u2019s Iglesia Nuestra de la Se\u00f1ora Asunci\u00f3n de Mar\u00eda<\/a> (April 7), the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.thomryng.com\/camino\/camino-photo-of-the-day-the-holy-door-of-astorga\/\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" target=\"_blank\">Catedral de Santa Mar\u00eda de Astorga<\/a> (April 20), and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.thomryng.com\/camino\/camino-photo-of-the-day-the-holy-doors-of-ponferrada\/\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" target=\"_blank\">Ponferrada&#8217;s Bas\u00edlica Nuestra Se\u00f1ora de la Encina<\/a> (April 23). But these doors, into this Cathedral, were in part the object of our pilgrimage.
