Pilgrims on the Way

Camino Photo of the Day: L’ange du Lazaret

This statue sits in a little plaza just off to the side of the Camino Photo of the Day: Cathédrale Saint-Etienne de Cahors. It was erected in 2015 by a group called Les Gardiens de l’Ange, whose purpose is to acquire works
of art and donate them to the local authorities of the Lot River Valley. I admit that my first impression of this image was not a positive one, but then I read the name of the piece on the plaque, “L’ange du Lazaret”. My mind immediately went to the parable of Lazarus and the rich man (Luke 16:19-31), and my opinion changed instantly. Which is, of course, part of the point.

Maps!

The site I’ve been using for my daily maps, Gronze.com, while otherwise great, unfortunately doesn’t have maps for this variant. So here’s a map from my book Practical Pilgrimage showing the entirety of the three main variants and larger sub-variants. I walked the GR6 from Figeac to Rocamadour and the GR46 on to Cahors.
