Walking the Camino de Santiago
For some time, we had been running into a group of Irish pilgrims at various stops on the Camino. This was, I believe, their last night before returning home. This rather foreboding archway is actually part of the portico for the Cathedral in Santo Domingo de la Calzada, as seen from the side. It looks as dark as it does because the sky was overcast. This is a sign for an albergue in Santo Domingo de la Calzada. It is operated by the confraternity of the saint, an organization that he himself founded in the year 1106. Yes. You can ride the Camino on bike rather than walk it. In 2013 when this photo was taken, roughly 20% of all Camino pilgrims were on bike.
