Pilgrims on the Way

Camino Photo of the Day: Into the Woods

Sometimes it’s roadwalking, and sometimes it’s practically bushwhacking. The walking surfaces of the Via Podiensis in France are perhaps even more varied than those of the Camino Francés in Spain. On this particular day, there were still segments of roadwalking – I feel like it wouldn’t be the Camino in France without them – but they were much reduced compared to previous days. In fact, it seemed that rather than trying to cover any great distance, the road segments were merely there to get you to the next proper path. And thank the Lord for the signage, because some of those paths were fairly well hidden.

Maps!

The site I’ve been using for my daily maps, Gronze.com, while otherwise great, unfortunately doesn’t have maps for this variant. So here’s a map from my book Practical Pilgrimage showing the entirety of the three main variants and larger sub-variants. I walked the GR6 from Figeac to Rocamadour and the GR46 on to Cahors.
