Pilgrims on the Way

Camino Photo of the Day: Medieval Cahors and Dinner

After exploring the cathedral (and taking many, many more photos), I set out to explore the old town a bit and find a place for dinner. I absolutely loved the architecture in this particular neighbourhood, which I passed on my way to a very local place recommended by folks at my gîte. It was a little hole-in-the-wall place called Le Bergougnoux. A website devoted to tourism in the Lot River Valley describes it thusly:

Tucked away in a narrow alley in old Cahors, this is a hidden gem of a restaurant, the kind you hear about from a friend. There’s no menu; the daily specials are written on a chalkboard, featuring market-fresh cuisine that changes with the seasons. As for desserts, they’re all homemade and displayed on the bar as you walk in – all you have to do is choose! The owner is warm and welcoming, enjoys chatting with customers, and will likely come and visit you at your table.

All true!

Maps!

The site I’ve been using for my daily maps, Gronze.com, while otherwise great, unfortunately doesn’t have maps for this variant. So here’s a map from my book Practical Pilgrimage showing the entirety of the three main variants and larger sub-variants. I walked the GR6 from Figeac to Rocamadour and the GR46 on to Cahors.
