Camino Photo of the Day: Rue Président Wilson
It’s true that every society is a product of its history. While in France I was mostly drawn to the Medieval, it’s hard to argue that the First World War doesn’t loom large. Every village has a war monument listing the honoured dead. Nearly every church has an altar or statue of Saint Joan of Arc, who became a symbol of French courage and determination, culminating perhaps in her oft-delayed canonization in 1920, just two years after the war ended. That morning I set out at about 7:10 across the city of Cahors on Rue Président Wilson, one of the main streets in the old city. A young man in the street wished me Buen Camino.
