Pilgrims on the Way

Camino Photo of the Day: Saint-Eutrope de Thémines Sanctuary

Whatever we were expecting when we walked into the church of Saint-Eutrope de Thémines, this was not it. The whole place was filled with a sort of melancholy magnificence, run down but still retaining echoes of a former glory. It also showcases something odd I saw in several churches in France: the fact that the main altar is, for some reason, located outside of the actual sanctuary. For what possible reason, I’ve no idea.

Date: 31 August 2023
Place: Thémines, between Lacapelle-Marival and Gramat, Lot Département, Region of Occitanie, France

Maps!

The site I’ve been using for my daily maps, Gronze.com, while otherwise great, unfortunately doesn’t have maps for this variant. So here’s a map from my book Practical Pilgrimage showing the entirety of the three main variants and larger sub-variants. I walked the GR6 from Figeac to Rocamadour and the GR46 on to Cahors.
