Pilgrims on the Way

Camino Photo of the Day: Tour de Sagnes

After lunch, I explored the village of Cardaillac a bit, and in particular, le quartier du Fort, the Fort District. This contains the remains of the former castle of the Cardaillac family, which once ruled much of this area. There were once three towers here, but one was destroyed sometime in the aftermath of the Revolution. You can see what remains of the third in the background.

Although this particular tower is generally open to the public, it was locked up tight when I visited.

Date: 30 August 2023
Place: Cardaillac (about halfway between Figeac and Lacapelle-Marival), Lot Département, Region of Occitanie, France

Maps!

The site I’ve been using for my daily maps, Gronze.com, while otherwise great, unfortunately doesn’t have maps for this variant. So here’s a map from my book Practical Pilgrimage showing the entirety of the three main variants and larger sub-variants. I walked the GR6 from Figeac to Rocamadour and the GR46 on to Cahors.
