Camino Photo of the Day: Endless Switchbacks

The second half of the Valcarlos route is pretty much nothing but highway through increasingly alpine forest. The slope and the trees do a good job of hiding the road ahead, but it’s switchback after switchback like some Sisyphusian nightmare. It didn’t help that it was hot and sunny. I think we all got sunburns. Towards the end, Penny and I took turns carrying Francine’s pack.

And yes, that’s snow in the photo. It’s probably close to 80° F, so you can imagine how much snow they must have had during the snowstorm the previous week.
