Camino Photo of the Day: Morning in Pamplona

Yesterday I was sick, so here are two photos for today! First breakfast, then to the Cathedral for Mass. The Mass didn’t start until 9:30, so we had a very late start on the day, the day I would categorize in my journal as “the day my pilgrimage actually began”. The cathedral is a wonder. The photo doesn’t begin to give the slightest idea of the sheer profusion of art and beauty bound together in this building. It seems like for today, which as I publish this post is the Feast of Saint John Lateran, it might be best to simply repeat what I recorded in my journal.

The Mass was chanted by the canons in Spanish and Latin. … they chanted the proper antiphons with psalms. …. It was an incredible experience, with the weight of history pressing but brought alive in the moment by the chant.

By the time we left the cathedral, it was 10:30, which put us about two hours off our schedule. But it was entirely worth it.
