Camino Photo of the Day: Portal de San Nicolás

On the way out of Pamplona, the Camino passes the Portal de San Nicolás, a seventeenth century Baroque gate into the city. Just before reaching this point, I spent some time lost for the third and final time on our way out of Pamplona. It was only because some locals started waving at me and wildly gesticulating towards the proper path that I got back on track.

This gate was moved from its original location in the now torn-down portion of the city wall, and it leads into a park and gardens called the Parque de la Taconera. The arms are those of the Spanish Hapsburgs in the center, with those of the Viceroy to either side.
