Camino Photo of the Day: the Zombie Sheep of Riego de Ambrós

The village of Riego de Ambrós sprawls along the Camino. It’s neat and tidy and not small by any stretch, but the whole time we were there, we only saw five people other than pilgrims. It was so unusual, I actually enumerated the entire population in my journal:

  • the hospitalera
  • the waiter at the bar (also the same guy who stocked the albergue vending machine)
  • the cook at the bar
  • the Tienda proprietor
  • an old guy at the bar
  • two dogs, a cat, and this ominous looking sheep.

The entire pilgrim population consisted of Francine and I, Stijn, and a German named Benny.

The village was neat and orderly, and indeed appeared newly built… and almost completely abandoned. Creepy.
