Camino Photo of the Day: Welcome to Occitanie

Just past the Chapelle de Saint-Roch, the Camino heads back to a pretty major road for a short bit. This is where I saw this sign, welcoming me to the administrative region of Occitanie. It is one of two major regions in France named after the old Duchy of Aquitaine1. The symbol of the region is based on the old arms of the Counts of Tolouse, who ruled this area once upon a time.

  1. The other is, of course, Nouvelle-Aquitaine. One is named after the Occitan name for the region, and the other for the French. I will duck in and out of these two regions for the remainder of my walk in France.
