Camino Photo of the Day: Zubiri Dawn

We left Zubiri a little after dawn. Although it wasn’t raining yet, it would soon. This is Francine just after we crossed back over the Puenta de la Rabia. The sign, like most signs in Navarra, is in both Spanish and Basque. I love the look and sound of the Basque language, possibly through a sense of whimsy.

Note that this photo is taken in our new patented Morning Vision™. The photo is just as blurry as I remember the reality that morning!

Date: 01 April 2016
Place: Zubiri (Navarra, Spain)

We had our first breakfast at a little cafe across the street from our alburgue. At that hour of the morning, the only customers were pilgrims and cops.

  • That was the day I found the scarf as we passed the ugly quarry. That was the day that I leaned down to a young Korean girl, who was nursing the terrible blisters on her feet on the side of a stream as pilgrims passed–ignoring her–and I told her that God was with her and she looked up and said, “MY SCARF!”
