Ash Wednesday

Remember that you are dust, and to dust you shall return.”

And with those words, our Lent has begun.

Holy Mother Church calls us to make these next forty days until Easter a time of prayer, fasting, and almsgiving. Lent is a pilgrimage, in a sense, through time if not space, through death to resurrection. A pilgrimage of penitence.

Let us walk together in the Lord.

This morning we had two Masses for Ash Wednesday at my parish of Holy Rosary, the first at 7:15 am, and the second at 9:00 am for the schoolchildren.

Both Masses were crowded – the first was certainly larger than our typical Saturday Vigil Mass. For the 7:15 we had our full choir (and then some!), and a passel of altar servers. It was a beautiful Mass, and the perfect way to begin our Lenten pilgrimage to the Cross.
