Roncesvalles

No photos yet, sorry. The albergue in Roncesvalles has a computer room but no wifi that I can find, so I can´t upload my photos from the camera.

I arrived here about an hour ago, and have had my first stamp on my pilgrim´s passport and a long, long shower. Items still to do include laundry and dinner.

Getting here was a trek in itself. All day yesterday on airplanes, and most of today on two buses, from Madrid to Soria, and then from Soria to Pamplona. I barely made that connection.

In Pamplona I found to my woe that the next bus to Roncesvalles is at 6PM… tomorrow.

So it was a taxi. I can safely report that I no longer believe Italian drivers to be the craziest on earth. This was a windy mountain road, full of hairpin turns, and the cabbie took it at speed, even passing cars that he decided were too slow.

My heart rate only recently recovered.

I met some pilgrims here that had come over the pass from Saint Jean, and I´m very glad I decided to forgo that route; it´s snowing in the pass and the advice is to not cross.

Tomorrow, I start walking!
